Top Ten Dip Station Reviews
We went out and researched all the dip stands we could find on the market at different price points and have listed our findings below. There is no overall best model as this will depend on your budget and personal needs. We have tried to provide you with a variety of price points and unique features for each dip bar.
Sunny Health & Fitness SF-BH6507 Dip Station with Safety Connector
This dip bar comes in at the budget end of our recommendations. With a user weight capacity of 250lb it should be fine for most individuals. The main feature of this dip stand is that it has a safety connector that makes it safer and more stable to use when working out on it.
Reading user reviews online they commented that it was very easy to assemble with just 12 bolts to screw into place that takes around 10 mins. They also mentioned it felt stable and they liked the comfortable hand grips. Some reviewers favourably compared it to the more expensive Lebert Equalizer. Though the Equalizer is more expensive it does have a 400lb limit though.
This is certainly value for money, if there is any negative it is that a few customers received faulty products that needed to be sent back and replaced. On the whole the majority were really pleased at getting a quality dip station at a very competitive price.
Black Mountain Products Heavy Duty Stand 3000-Pound Rated Dip Station
This portable dip station comes from Black Mountain a company that has been busy making a name for itself in the home workout equipment field.
This is one of the best portable dip stands available and it comes at an affordable price.
You may say it’s just a simple frame that allows you to do some dips – true, but its value is in the details. For example, this product is very easy to assemble. Within 5 minutes, you’ve got yourself a sturdy frame to start your exercises. Talking about sturdiness, this appears to be one of the top attributes of this product; it is extremely sturdy, well build, compact and safe. The stabilizing pads make sure it stays still on any surface, be it wood, concrete, carpet etc. The construction is solid and allows you to practice your dips without having to worry about the frame moving around.
Another positive aspect is that the space between the bars and the frame’s height seem to fit about any person, regardless of the weight and height. It also comes with foam grips. Let’s not forget its light weight, which allows easy storage and easy transportation – you can train anywhere you want.
DIPGRIPS Home Gym Dip Station Bars
The DIPGRIPS set up is different from the usual free standing dip bars at it installs on a door frame. This might be a plus to some but a minus to others. For instance if you already have a door-frame pull up bar it might make a nice addition to your home workout set up.
What we really liked about this product was that the company who sell them have great customer service and an online presence with Facebook pages and YouTube videos as well as answering questions on Amazon.
Obviously as this is a door-frame dip bar you will need an electric drill to install it but assembly is very simple.
Customers who already had a doorway pull up bar liked the small footprint with this piece of equipment. No power towers or dip stations taking up space. The handles are also removable so you can take them off and store them away when not in use.
If you already have a chin up bar in you doorway this will make sure that your workout set up remains space efficient. This gets excellent online reviews. The only downside we can see is that you need to make sure that you don’t have a weak door-frame.
Ollieroo Heavy Duty Dip Stand Freestanding Dip Station
This is a great heavy duty model that has a weight capacity of 425 pounds so for those of you that want some hardcore training you can add weighted vests or a dip belt to the mix.
This would be suitable if you have an outside gym set up as it’s powder coated so you don’t need to worry about it rusting.
There’s not much else to say about this one – Assembly is straightforward, its sturdy and will take a lot of weight, looks good and does the job. Its ergonomically designed and floor friendly with non-slip rubber feet. Everything you need in a dip bar providing you have the space.
Trademark Innovations Fitness Training Dip Station
This one is another free standing dip station that is fine for those who have the room. Assembly should take you between 10-20 minutes. We are not sure of the weight capacity on this one but user reviews from guys of 225lbs have stated that it was fine for their needs. This is a sturdy quality made product and also comes with straps for carrying out other exercises.
Dip Stand Self Standing Dipping Station Machine
Described as ‘solid as a rock’ if you want a heavy duty dip station that takes a weight of 440 lb then this is your boy! This is another one for those who want to use some extra weight when they work-out. Stability won’t be an issue and users found the grips comfortable and safe. This is a piece of equipment that is built to last by a company who know what their customers want.
A good price for a very solid well designed piece of workout equipment, that one reviewer claimed was better than the commercial dip bar at his gym.
Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand
This is another excellent dip station and can be used for a variety of exercises to build strength and perform compound body-weight exercises.
The Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand is simple to put together as it has color-coded parts. No tools are necessary. The dip stand is made from thick steel and has the durability to last a lifetime. The the frame can support up to 350 pounds and will suit people up to 6’5” tall in height.
This dip station can be folded up for easy storage or transportation. It has non-skid feet and comes with high density foam for grip comfort.
The other nice thing about this one is that you can get accessories to add to this dip stand such as a set of rings so that you can do ring push-ups. Other accessories include a weighted vest and ankle tethers.
Fuel Pureformance Dip Station with Rings
You can actually buy the Fuel Pureformance dip stand without the rings but for us this is the stand out feature of this particular product. With the rings it is one of the more expensive one’s we review here but we believe the added costs are worth it if you want the added functionality. If you like your fitness equipment to have some aesthetic appeal this is really nice looking though its good looks don’t make it any better or worse.
Assembly is fairly straightforward but one minor complaint is that it doesn’t come with instructions so you have to use a bit of brain power to work it out yourself.
The hand grips are angled outward slightly so it is ergonomically correct for dips, its reported as being very sturdy.
The rings give you a lot more options for upper body exercises you can use the rings for push ups, inverted rows and chest flies. It also comes with a useful poster that shows a wide range of exercises that can be performed.
Any complaints? It’s a bit low to the ground so not ideal for using with a dip belt, if you want to add weight you will have to wear a weighted vest. Some of the taller guys said it was a little short, if you think this will be the case with you then check out one of our other 9 recommendations.
The Original Lebert Fitness Equalizer
With the Lebert Equalizer you are buying into the ‘brand’ and this adds to the price of this workout device.
The Equalizer comes in a variety of colors from a bright green to a pink one, some of the different shades cost a few dollars more than others for some reason. I have a nice yellow one at home!
The two main selling points of the Leberts Equalizer is that they are light in weight, just 8lbs for each bar but can take a weight of 400lbs. As well as this they provide a very quick versatile workout for your upper body and core. Being lightweight and portable makes them great if you want to transport them or if you lack space in your house or aparment. I like that I can just pick them up and use them to workout in the backyard when the sun is shining.
If you are over 6ft and decide that you’d like to purchase the Lebert Equalizer make sure that you get the XL version.
While the Lebert Equalizer is fairly expensive compared to some of the dip station we have featured in this article it does have some added benefits. If you visit Lebert’s YouTube Channel you will see literally dozens of different exercises you can carry out using this equipment. I would certainly recommend them for someone who wants a fun and varied workout but at a little more cost.
Stamina 1690 Power Tower
There are a number of Power Towers on the market and while most of the other products we have looked at so far are dedicated ‘Dip Stations’ we thought we would add the Stamina 1690 for those of you who might want a combined pull up and dip station tower.
As well as pull ups and dips you can practice various other upper body exercises that will provide an intense, yet safe workout for an affordable price.
The safety it offers comes from the sturdy, solid construction that handles a weight up to 250 lbs. The steel frame offers solid support and ensures the power tower remains still while you carry out your exercises.
Even though most reviews of the Stamina 1690 were very positive some users found the pull-up bar a bit too narrow. If you weight over 200-lbs or intend to do pull ups or dips with additional weight this probably won’t be stable enough for your needs.
After looking into the pros and cons of all these dip stations, we can agree they all seem to do what they promise they would. That is they offer a stable frame for various upper body exercises.
However, if there’s one thing you should learn it is looking into the specifications and measures of each and every device, so you wouldn’t risk being too tall or too short, too light or too heavy to safely use any of these products.
Another thing you should consider is the size of each frame, depending on the available space you have. Some prefer a portable station for a reduced footprint while others may give that up to a more complex dipping station that offers versatility and allows a variety of upper body exercises.
While there’s always room for improvement, even for the best frames of them all, the main things you should scout for when looking for the perfect dip station seems to be stability and grip. If the frame would rock or move when you exercise, you would risk falling or possible injuries – nobody wants that!
Regarding the grip, make sure the frame is adequate for your weight and hand size, so you will have total control of your body while exercising.
All in all, there are pros and cons for each and every dip station we looked into. It’s up to you to decide which is more suitable for your needs and exercise routine.
