There are so many different diet programs on the market all claiming better ways to help you shed weight and live more healthy. Many do have true value and can help you on your way to permanent weight loss. We all have different needs, budgets and preferences, so a diet program that would suit me will not necessarily be the one for you.

Atkins Diet

So you will still need to have some will power, and not cheat by grabbing fattening snacks on the side.

The NutriSystem Diet is actually quite strict. Many of the most tempting foods and snacks, such as sugar, white flour and alcohol are forbidden. So if you are going to sign up for this diet, you have to be ready to make some radical changes to your eating habits (unless you already eat a very healthy diet).

There is also the cost to consider. The meals cost around $300 per month. Of course, since this will be replacing your normal meals, you aren’t really spending extra money for food -unless you are extremely budget conscious when you shop.

You aren’t expected to stick to the NutriSystem Diet forever. In fact, most dieters stay on it for a few months and then rely on the website for guidance. This means that once you are finished with the program, you have to be careful not to binge and start eating all of the unhealthy foods that you might have been craving.

The NutriSystem Diet has helped many people lose weight over the last four decades. If you can stick with it for a couple of months, it can enable you to change your eating and lifestyle habits in a very positive way. It’s then up to you to maintain these new habits on your own.

South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet is a popular diet created by Dr. Arthur Agatston. The long title of his book tells you a lot about the diet – The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss.

The South Beach Diet is often compared to another, even more famous diet -the Atkins diet. That’s because both emphasize restricting carbohydrates. There are, however, important differences between these two approaches. Agatston denies that his diet is a low carb or low fat diet. That’s because you are permitted to consume both carbs and fats -only they should be healthy ones.

The South Beach diet was one of the first diets to draw a distinction between healthy and unhealthy fats. This is something that is now widely discussed in many books on nutrition, in addition to magazine articles, websites and other media. On the South Beach diet, you are encouraged to reduce or avoid saturated fats and trans fats while eating more mono saturated fats.

It takes many of the best points of the Atkins diet and modifies them, such as by restricting unhealthy fats.

The Fresh Diet

Weight Watchers is one of the oldest and most popular diet programs in the world. It began in 1963, but has been consistently reinventing itself to keep up with the changing times. Weight watchers is a good system. for people who want to be part of a very structured program to keep them on track with their diets.

What makes Weight Watchers different from most other diets is that it not only gives you advice on diet and nutrition but it encourages you to attend meetings and actively participate. Originally, most members would attend live meetings in their area. Today, more and more people are accessing the program online.

In 2010, Weight Watchers introduced a new system called the PointsPlus program. This was designed to be a more efficient way to help people eat healthier, less fattening foods and still not feel deprived. The way this works is that you can eat some of your favorite foods, as long as you balance this out with vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins.

PointsPlus looks at the big picture, so you don’t have to worry about completely avoiding any particular foods. It also recommends certain Power Foods that are especially satisfying and nutritious. If you are familiar with Weight Watchers at all, you may have heard of their Filling Foods -Power Foods is an updated version of this.

There are Power Foods in many different categories, but some examples are fat free Greek yogurt, quinoa, blueberries, cauliflower and bulgur. You aren’t expected to live entirely on Power Foods, but they are good go keep in mind when you go shopping and seek out new recipes that will help you stick to your diet.

What is good about Weight Watchers is that it provides members with a comprehensive set of tools and resources to help them lose weight. At the same time, it allows you to customize these tools for your own personal needs and goals. For example, it gives you thousands of recipes and food options. So it’s not like some diets that tell you that you must eat only X, Y and Z. You can follow the guidelines that Weight Watchers provides and still have many choices.

Weight Watchers also is very versatile when it comes to the ways you can participate. You can attend local meetings or do everything online. Either way, of course, it’s up to you to actually follow their advice. But the many resources they provide makes it easier.

One possible drawback of Weight Watchers is the cost. Unlike a diet book, where you just buy it and follow it, Weight Watchers has monthly dues. These come to about $50 per month, depending on the plan you choose and what specials they may be offering at any given time. This isn’t cheap. So, while they do have a lot to offer, there also is a certain financial investment required. On the other hand, paying a membership fee might make you feel more committed to your diet, which can be helpful.

Anyone who is serious about losing weight should at least consider Weight Watchers. It’s not for everyone, but it can provide you with a reliable support system to help you reach your weight loss goals.


The Zone Diet

The Zone diet was created by Dr. Barry Sears, who wrote a popular book called Enter The Zone.  His most recent book is The Anti-Inflammation Zone. The diet he came up with promises to do more than help you to lose weight. It’s also meant to make you healthier and allow you to avoid common health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

The basic premise of this diet is that by staying in what Sears called “the zone,” your body performs at a much higher level and is protected from many threats. The most fundamental principle of The Zone diet is that you should try to make your diet 40 carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein. Of course, it’s quite a bit more complicated than that. After all, not all carbs, fats and proteins are equal. Some are healthy and others aren’t.

One feature of the The Zone diet that many people find appealing is that it does away with the whole concept of counting calories. Sears doesn’t believe that the number of calories you consume is very important. He focuses instead on the quality of the foods you eat, and maintaining the right balance between the types of food.

The goal with this diet is to achieve peak efficiency. This is what everyone, from elite athletes to out of shape, overweight dieters are actually trying to achieve. For it’s really the same principle in both cases. When your metabolism is working at its most efficient, you will be burning calories and fat. You will also have more energy and feel better. So you’ll be performing better, whether you’re at work or at the gym.

One of the first things you have to realize about The Zone diet is that when you are told to eat 40% carbohydrates, this doesn’t mean bread and pasta. You are supposed to focus mainly on healthy carbs, which means vegetables, fruits and whole grains. You are allowed a small amount of unhealthy carbs, but these must be severely limited if you want to stay in The Zone.

Similarly, the fats you eat should be mainly healthy ones. This means foods like olive oil, avocados and various types of nuts. When it comes to protein, you are given a fairly simple way to determine how much is the right amount. With each meal, you should aim to consume a portion of protein about the size of your palm.

The Zone diet is fairly simple to follow. You can find out a lot more about it by reading one of Dr. Sears’ books or by exploring their website. Experts don’t agree about the science behind the diet (though it would be hard to find any diet that everyone agrees about!). Many people, however, have gotten good results by following its recommendations.

Although The Zone diet has very specific requirements, it’s also quite flexible. Within the structure of the 40-30-30 rule, you have quite a bit of leeway to enjoy many foods that you enjoy.
